Police in Morgan County are investigating the drowning death of a young child in his grandmother's swimming pool.

Mooresville Police say two-year-old Damon Nicley was pulled from the pool behind the house in the 11600 block of Mann Road in the northeastern part of the county.

Nicley was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Mooresville, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say Damon somehow slipped into the water around 10:00 p.m. Wednesday without anyone realizing it. The details of exactly what happened and where family members were at the time of his drowning is not clear right now. Now, a family is grieving the loss of a little boy whose death was preventable.

Bobby Nicley is Damon's father: "It's my youngest baby boy. Yes,  I have 5 kids and it hurts so bad to lose something that... to not even get the chance to play football with him."

So, for the third time this week in Central Indiana, children have died in drownings. There are two reminders for parents: children and water are a good combination only when those children are being closely supervised. Also, the importance of teaching children how to swim.

The YMCA has classes for 6-month-olds.

Other programs teach basic survival methods for infants and toddlers.
