Police are investigating the death of a child on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

Paramedics went to a home in the 4200 block of Norrose Drive Tuesday morning on reports of an injured child. Once on the scene, the medics called for police based on the injuries being suspicious in nature.

Police believe the child may have been sleeping with its mother, who rolled over and suffocated the child.

The child died around 9:30 a.m. at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health.

As part of their standard operating procedures, the officers also contact social workers with Child Protective Services. The two agencies are now conducting a joint investigation.

Part of the investigation will include questioning adults and others at the address at the time of injury.
