The Indiana State Police have identified a female pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle on I-465 over the weekend.

The Marion County coroner identified the victim as 31-year-old Melissa Simmons of Indianapolis. Her family has been notified.

State Police say the crash occurred at around 8:19 pm on Saturday, September 21, 2013. Simmons was walking in the I-465 northbound median near 38th Street and climbed the concrete median barrier. She was attempting to cross the southbound lanes when a pickup truck struck her in the far right lane.

Simmons was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup, David Sinclair, 55, of Avon, was not injured. Troopers did not observe any signs of impairment and Sinclair submitted to a breath test with negative results.

Troopers were unable to locate a disabled vehicle in the vicinity. The crash remains under investigation.

The crash shut down I-465 for about an hour Saturday night near 38th St. on the Indianapolis west side.
