Indianapolis Metro Police officers were called to the Lavenia and Summers Funeral Home on Tuesday to check out a report of a disturbance.

That's where the funeral for James Johnson was taking place. Johnson was 16 years old when he was shot to death in a playground near Hawthorne Place Apartments on the Indianapolis east side last week.

Several police units were called in to keep the situation calm after a large altercation was reported in the parking lot.

IMPD was already at the funeral and requested assistance. Several additional officers arrived and dispersed the crowd, with the officers telling several teens to leave the area.

No arrests were made. Several clergy members were also on scene.

Family and friends described Johnson as a close friend of Monquize Edwards Sr., who was shot to death in downtown Indianapolis on the night of July 4th. Police have not said if those shootings are connected in any way.

Police arrested Eron Bonner, 18, in connection with Edwards' fatal shooting. So far there have been no arrests in Johnson's shooting.
