Police arrest Keystone Ave. gas station murder suspect

Twenty-four-year-old Philip Garrett is in custody charged with the murder of a man at a gas station.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police says Garrett was involved in the shooting of 28-year-old Carl Gildersleeve at the Shell gas station at 2434 N. Keystone Ave. on June 1 just after 3:30 a.m.

Officers found the victim lying in the parking lot suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced the victim dead.

According to detectives the victim and his friend pulled into the gas station parking lot and parked at the gas pumps. The victim's friend went inside the business, exited and observed the victim and another man in a physical struggle in the parking lot. During the struggle a gunshot was heard and the suspect fled the scene.

The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will review the probable cause affidavit and make the final charging decision.
