LONDON (NBC NEWS) - London Police confirmed Monday morning that 79 people are dead or missing in the Grenfell Tower apartment fire from last week.

London Police released video and still photos earlier Monday showing the charred ruins of the tower's interior.

According to the official police website, the video was recorded by a police recovery team.

Experts believe the building's exterior cladding helped spread the flames quickly along the outside of the tower.

Two British cabinet ministers said Sunday that the cladding used in a renovation of the tower may have been banned under British building regulations.

Police are conducting a criminal investigation into the inferno at the building that housed up to 600 people in 120 apartments.
