A young couple was hospitalized after an accident that sent their SUV into a Hamilton County retention pond. It happened at Cumberland Road and North Point Boulevard in Noblesville. The victims are expected to be okay - thanks to some late-shift workers who happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Just after midnight, a driver from the Pizza Hut was taking out the trash when he saw the whole accident unfold.

According to that driver, a red Jeep Cherokee SUV was trying to pass another car on Cumberland when he lost control, went up on the curb and then rolled end over end, flipping down a steep embankment and landing in the pond. The male driver made it out on his own, but his female passenger was trapped inside.

The pizza delivery driver grabbed a couple of his co-workers and they rushed to the scene to help.

"When we got over here, people were freaking out. We rushed down the hill and he was like, 'help me! I can't get her out. The door is pinned.' The driver was pulling stuff out of the car, throwing stuff on the ground, crawling to the back of the car trying to get to her. My driver jumped into the water and tried to help her. My other employee, Curtis, got in there and helped pull the woman out," said Josh Foust, witness.

The Pizza Hut employees did all of that before any first responders arrived, informed police of what happened and then went back to work. According to police, both the driver and passenger were taken to Riverview Hospital in Noblesville with non-life threatening injuries.

According to Noblesville Police, Kristin A. Fitrzyk, 34, from Fishers was taken to Riverview Hospital in Noblesville with non-life threatening injuries and then transferred to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

The driver of the vehicle, also from Fishers, is 32-year-old Matt H. Rider, who had minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Police investigated Rider for suspicion of intoxication and was taken to the Hamilton County Jail and booked on three preliminary charges involving operation of a vehicle while intoxicated.

During the accident, the Jeep took out a Duke Energy power box, knocking out power to the strip mall where the Pizza Hut is located. It has since been restored. However, one of the buildings is still without power, which has caused a daycare, Primrose School of Noblesville at 15707 N. Point Blvd. to close for the day.
