Photographer captures family's dog's last day in emotional journal

Losing a pet is never easy, but as a Texas photographer showed recently, letting them spend one day like a king can be awesome.

Photographer Robyn Arouty posted a photo journal to her blog last week, titled "I Died Today, By Duke Roberts," chronicling the day of a friend's dog, "Duke," who had to be put to sleep due to a recurring tumor.

The series of photos shows Duke, who was adopted three years ago, spending the day with his family, who gave him a plate of cheeseburgers, played with him, held him and even took him to a water park to splash and play.

Arouty narrated the journal in Duke's voice, closing by writing, "God, I was lucky. Our time was short. But you both gave me a second chance & we lived it up together. You love when I look at you. I’ll never stop."
