A man is recovering from injuries he suffered after being struck by a vehicle on I-465.

It happened at around 12:20 pm on the Indianapolis northeast side near 56th Street in the southbound lanes. Witnesses told Indiana State troopers that a man was standing on the right land emergency shoulder when he suddenly jumped in front of a 2012 Nissan.

The driver of the Nissan could not avoid striking the man, who had leg, back and head injuries. He was taken to Methodist Hospital. He did not have any identification on him.

After being struck, the man ran across all southbound lanes, crossed the concrete median wall and collapsed.

The Nissan's driver was not injured and troopers do not suspect any impairment.

All lanes of I-465 SB were closed for approximately 45 minutes while the crash was investigated. The left lane of NB I-465 was also closed so emergency workers could tend to the patient.
