Indiana Governor Mike Pence is heading to New York City to talk up the state's efforts to improve career training.

Pence will speak Monday as part of a panel of governors at NBC's National Education Summit. The Republican governor will join Massachusetts' Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick and Kentucky's Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear on the panel.

Pence has spent much of his first year in office trying to improve coordination between Indiana's K-12 schools, colleges and manufacturing companies. He created a series of regional works councils earlier this year to study how to better coordinate education and training.

Pence has also looked to expand education overhauls championed by former Gov. Mitch Daniels and former School Superintendent Tony Bennett.
