The mother and father of a 13-year-old boy shot at a weekend house party for children are pleading for help. They hope someone can help locate the person who opened fire into a crowd of kids, striking their son.

The shooting happened Saturday night in the 3400 block of Aylesford Lane on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

The victim is in critical but stable condition at Riley Hospital for Children-IU Health.

"Right now, we have the fight of our life in front of us," said the boy's mother, DeAndra Yates.

"My son is fighting. First time in a long time that I felt hurt, very hurt," said Gerald Keys Jr., the victim's father.

They are praying for answers and hoping someone in the neighborhood saw something that can help police.

"If you know anybody that was responsible for this heinous crime, please, please contact the police," Yates said.

Photographs taken during the party and posted to Facebook showed the number of children at the party grew out of control. When the host asked several uninvited guests to leave, witnesses say someone outside started shooting.

Bullets struck the house, sending panic into the party, leaving the teenager injured and his dreams on hold.

"He wanted to go to the NFL, IU or Michigan, and if none of that panned out, he said he would be a firefighter," Yates said. "His principal just brought his honor roll certificate up to the school in a plaque and gave it to me and my family. He was just a good kid."

The victim's mother and father are spending most of their time at their son's bedside at Riley, but are also telling parents to think twice before letting your children go to a house party.

"If somebody is advertising parties on social media and things like that, you don't know what kind of crowd it could draw in," Yates said.

If you have information that could help police in this case, call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
