Overnight lightning suspected in house fires
Zionsville fire crews battled a pair of house fires overnight. Lightning is suspected as a cause of both.
The first call came in shortly before 10:45 p.m. for a two-story house in the 9400 block of Greenthread Drive. Firefighters needed more than an hour to extinguish the fire.
The residents evacuated safely, but the fire damage is expected to exceed $100,000.
Just as crews were able to control the Greenthread fire, an attic fire started by lightning broke out at another house in the 3500 block of Flagstone Drive. Crews from several agencies took care of that fire quickly. The damage estimate projects to be around $7,500 at that house.
Nobody was hurt in either fire.
Crews from Carmel, Whitestown, Pike Township and Lebanon assisted Zionsville at those fires.
There is a slight risk for severe weather in central Indiana later this afternoon and evening. Be sure to watch meteorologist Nicole Misencik on Eyewitness News at Noon today for the latest information on the potential for more storms later today.
