Eastbound Interstate 70 was closed overnight while emergency crews rescued an injured woman whose SUV was struck by a semi-trailer just before the Greenfield exit.

Crews responded shortly after 1:30 a.m Wednesday when the semi hit the Indianapolis-area woman's disabled SUV from behind, driving it off the road and into a ditch, ejecting her.

Witnesses told Greenfield police at the scene that the woman's dark-colored SUV was stopped in the right hand lane with no lights or flashers. They said the semi driver locked up his brakes but was unable to stop before striking the SUV.

Investigators told Eyewitness News the woman was unconscious but stabilized when she was loaded on a medical helicopter and flown to the hospital.

Crews are still working to clear the scene, but the left lane was re-opened to allow backed-up traffic to move.
