Police are investigating a fatal accident on West Washington Street near Bridgeport, just north the airport.

Police say two men were pushing a car when struck from behind by a pick-up truck vehicle around 5:45 Friday morning. Both victims were transported to IU Methodist Hospital.

One of the men, identified as 22-year-old Nicholas Malott of Indianapolis, died Friday afternoon. The other victim, 24-year-old Dusty Shiler of Indianapolis, has been released from the hospital.

The driver of the pick-up truck has preliminarily been identified as Timothy Childers, 52, of Indianapolis.

Witnesses told police that both men were pushing a disabled vehicle when they were struck by the vehicle from behind. Police believe both victims were wearing reflective vests with the vehicle's hazard lights operating at the time of the accident.

The Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was called to investigate, and police are interviewing the driver of the vehicle that struck the men.

Westbound traffic on Washington is being diverted around the accident scene at this point, but both directions are open.
