One person was killed in a crash on Interstate 69 in Grant County Friday.

Police say a box truck struck the rear of a Buick as it slowed near a work zone at the 58 mile marker, killing the driver of the passenger vehicle. Investigators say the Buick was pushed into the rear of a semi-tractor, which was pulling a trailer, as both of those vehicles slowed for an approaching work zone. The Buick and the box truck, driven by 40-year-old Brad Anderson of Danville, were both engulfed in flames after the crash.

Firefighters found a deceased person in the Buick after they extinguished the fire. Anderson was taken to Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis with burns on his arms and legs. He was helped from his truck by passersby, who cut off his seat belt and removed him from the flames.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

Police have not yet identified the victim found in the Buick. The crash remains under investigation.

The southbound lanes of I-69 were closed for several hours as police investigated and cleaned up the accident.
