One person has died in a crash involving a semi truck and a passenger car.

The crash occurred at State Road 44 and Old Franklin Road, about 3.5 miles west of Shelbyville, around 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

Police say a passenger car was driving west on SR 44 when the driver, for unknown reasons, crossed the center line into the path of the semi. The vehicle collided head-on, with the semi driving over the car, according to the Shelby County sheriff.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi driver, who was not injured, submitted to tests, but the sheriff says there is no indication of impairment.

Weather is not suspected to be a contributing factor in this crash.
