Fountain County authorities and Indiana State Police are investigating an ultralight plane crash south of Attica that killed one person Saturday afternoon.

The plane's wreckage was found about three miles south of town near Covered Bridge Road around 1:00 p.m. Inside, investigators found the pilot, 72-year-old Charles H. Coffing of Covington. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fountain County coroner's office.

Coffing was flying the aircraft when it nose-dived into the ground about 20 miles southwest of Lafayette for an unknown reason, according to Sgt. Kim Riley.
