The man accused of killing an IMPD officer is scheduled to make his first court appearance Tuesday morning.

Major Davis Jr. is charged with murder in the shooting death of veteran Ofc. Perry Renn July 5. Police say Davis, 25, was released from Eskenazi Health Friday after recovering from gunshot wounds suffered during the shootout with Renn and another officer.

Investigators say Davis used a high-powered rifle that penetrated Renn's protective vest. An autopsy showed the fatal shot passed through the officer's right lung and into his heart.

Prosecutors added an enhancement to the murder charge, since it was committed with a firearm. They are also considering seeking the death penalty for Davis.
