An off-duty Columbus, Ohio fire lieutenant is in critical condition after he was possibly struck by lightning at a soccer game.

Our sister station, WBNS spoke with officials who say it happened just before 8 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Columbus Crew Stadium.

Severe weather was in that area just before the start of the soccer match and the stadium had to be evacuated.

The firefighter was taken to the hospital in cardiac arrest.

He's currently in the intensive care unit.

The Columbus Crew ended up canceling the game due to what they called "extenuating circumstances".
