NW Indiana woman upset DNR euthanized fawn
A northwest Indiana woman who rescued a deer fawn that got entangled in barbed wire and brought it to an animal hospital is upset the state Department of Natural Resources ordered it be euthanized.
Eva Menconi of Porter County tells The Times of Munster she is frustrated that when she repeatedly sought help from the DNR on Wednesday she was told an officer would not be available until mid-afternoon, but the agency was available to make sure the fawn was euthanized.
She had found a sanctuary willing to take the fawn even though it needed to have a leg amputated.
DNR spokesman Phil Bloom praised Menconi, but says state law doesn't allow for the fawn to be taken to a refuge and it couldn't survive in the wild.
