No. 21 Notre Dame again struggling in the red zone
Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly believes the 21st-ranked Fighting Irish need to cut down on missed opportunities when they play Purdue on Saturday.
The Irish failed to score twice from inside the 20-yard line against Michigan in the fourth quarter, an area that Kelly focused on before the season. Two games in, the Irish are tied for 111th in red zone offense, converting on just four of seven chances. Kelly said Tuesday that the problem is players executing plays.
He also says the reason the Irish passed on 74 percent of their offensive plays against Michigan was because the Wolverines put eight men or more near the line. He says he's not worried about others attempting the tactic, saying he's confident the Irish can win relying on passing.
