WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WTHR) — A judge granted a motion today to get a DNA sample from the adopted daughter at the center of an age controversy.

During an appearance on Dr. Phil last month, Natalia Barnett claimed she was only 16. And she said her adopted parents abandoned her in Tippecanoe County when she was just 8.

Michael and Kristine Barnett who are no longer married said they're not guilty of child neglect. They say Natalia is lying about how old she is.

They claim she's an adult with a form of dwarfism.

WTHR has reached out to their lawyer to find out what that DNA sample will be used to determine.

The Barnetts were supposed to go on trial next month, but that's been rescheduled for June of next year.
