New walkway a safer option for Whitestown students
Students in Whitestown have a safer way to get to school this morning, and it's all because of some enterprising 8th graders.
A new pedestrian walkway will let students safely cross the busy Whitestown Parkway on foot or by bike.
Four students at Zionsville West Middle School proposed the trail between the cities of Whitestown and Zionsville.
They wanted a safer way to get to school on their own.
"We're all so amazed we were able to make this happen, for everyone to get to school," said Theresa Bottorff, a Zionsville West Middle School student. "They can safely cross the street, because a lot of bad things have happened here. And I'm glad we have this safe route now that we can get across."
A plaque will be installed on the trail, commemorating the students' effort.
They credited their social studies teacher for encouraging them to make it happen.
