New research gives us a clearer picture of what to avoid to protect your baby from SIDS.

Researchers looked at deaths in 24 states involving more than 8,000 kids. More than 70 percent of SIDS deaths involved babies sleeping in adult beds or with an adult, but that number was even higher for infants under 4-months-old.

Older children were more often found with blankets or stuffed animals.

SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, kills 4,000 babies a year.
