New owner of South Bend office tower plans upgrade
The new owners of South Bend's tallest building plan to spend $5.8 million to upgrade the well-worn, 25-story tower that's long generated complaints among its tenants.
Washington Square Realty of Long Island, N.Y. spells out its in plans for the Chase Tower in paperwork seeking a tax abatement as part of its project to upgrade the downtown office tower.
The company bought the building out of foreclosure in March.
The South Bend Tribune reports the company is seeking a four-year real property tax abatement worth about $30,658. The company's petition states that it plans to spend about $5.8 million over the next two years to upgrade the building.
It plans include modernizing the building's elevators, upgrading the plumbing and heating systems, repairing the facade and replacing the windows.
