New Jersey woman, 20, killed in Lebanon crash

A 20-year-old New Jersey woman died in a van crash Monday morning on I-65 south in Lebanon.

Indiana State Police say Rayyah Andrews was killed. She was part of a group of Central State students heading from Chicago to Ohio.

Police say the driver, 20-year-old Allen Griffin of Chicago, IL, was driving his 1999 Chevrolet Venture van southbound I-65 when he attempted to exit in Lebanon at the 141 mile marker. After exiting, the van veered right and truck the guardrail.

Police believe Andrews was ejected out of the side sliding door window. She had been lying in the middle seat of the van unrestrained.

Andrews was pronounced dead at the scene. All other passengers were wearing their seatbelts.

The driver was taken to Witham Hospital to be treated for pain. He was later released. A front seat passenger, Vyshona Simmons, 18, of Chicago, was treated and released at Witham for a minor leg injury. A back seat passenger, Rakeem Rashad, 21,of Chicago, was not injured.

The Lebanon Police Department was assisted by the Boone County Sheriff's Office, Boone County Medics, Lebanon Fire Department, Boone County Crash Investigation Team and the Boone County Coroner's Office.

At this time, police say alcohol does not appear to be a factor. The crash is still under investigation.
