Fort Wayne - The first months of Fort Wayne's new downtown baseball stadium have seen bigger crowds that officials hope will grow larger through the summer.

The Fort Wayne TinCaps drew nearly 162,000 fans to Parkview Field through the Midwest League's all-star break in late June. That is more than 50,000 ahead of last year during the team's final season in Memorial Stadium.

Team president Mike Nutter told The Journal Gazette he was pleased with attendance for the season's first half and that summer vacations and warmer weather usually lead to larger crowds in July and August.

City officials say 355,000 paying customers are needed for events at Parkview Field to generate enough ticket fee revenue to meet the city's required $230,000 payment into an account meant for long-term stadium improvements.
