Church bells will be ringing in the southern Indiana city of New Albany to greet the new year.

The News and Tribune reports that New Albany Bicentennial Commission member David Barksdale has sent out requests to city churches to ring their bells, play their carillons or utilize any other sort of musical instrument they have to usher-in the bicentennial year.

The commission also hopes city residents will find a safe and commemorative way to mark the beginning of the city's 200th anniversary.

Among the bicentennial events on schedule are an exhibit called "Artists of the Wonderland Way" at the Carnegie Center for Arts & History on Jan. 25 and Develop New Albany will host its "through the Decades Ball" at The Grand on Jan. 26.
