Airbus recently announced two new members of its airplane family that offer more aerodynamic enhancements and cabin features.

The company says the new planes will allow passengers a "21st century on-board experience, with for example, fourth generation In Flight Entertainment (3D films), mood-lighting and full connectivity.

The new planes are the A330-800neo and A330-900neo and have the latest generation of Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines. They reduce fuel usage by 14 percent per seat.

“The A330neo is the logical evolution of our reliable and versatile A330 Family," said Fabrice Brégier, Airbus president and CEO. "It provides an optimal solution for airlines around the world looking to minimise their fuel and operating costs while offering best-in-class comfort to their passengers."

The new planes will hit the runways in 2017.
