A man is facing vehicle theft charges after Lebanon Police say he jumped naked from a second-floor window and stole a car.

Lebanon Police were serving a civil paper to someone on Powell Street early Tuesday. They believe 24-year-old John Baldwin Jr., who was two doors down, saw police and panicked, jumping from the window and stealing a car that had been left running on Lafayette Ave.

The resident on Lafayette Ave. reported his car stolen while it was warming up. Officers conducted a search but couldn't find the nude suspect or the car.

About 45 minutes later at 9:00 am, the Montgomery County Sheriff's office called Lebanon Police to say they were called to the truck stop at State Road 32 and I-74 to check out a report of a nude man complaining that he'd been in a fight and needed help. The nude man was Baldwin.

Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies located the stolen car and determined that Baldwin had been in possession of it. He was taken to Crawfordsville Hospital to treat injuries sustained when he jumped from the window, and he was transferred to an Indianapolis hospital for evaluation.

Police did not have any sort of warrant for Baldwin, but family members told police he believed officers were coming for him.

Baldwin will face charges in Montgomery and Boone Counties.

The Lebanon Police Department would like to remind residents that they should not leave vehicles outside, running and unlocked, to warm up.
