A Muncie woman faces charges for driving 96 miles an hour while drunk with her two young children in the car.

Police say they pulled over 29-year-old Melissa Lyght at 3:30 pm Monday afternoon. She was clocked at driving 96 miles an hour in a 55 mph zone on State Road 67 near Cowan Road. She had her three-year-old son and six-month-old daughter with her. Lyght tested more than twice the legal limit for blood alcohol content.

Police released the children to a relative.

Lyght faces several charges, including operating while intoxicated with a passenger under 18, a class D felony, and two counts of neglect of a dependent, also a class D felony. Lyght is being held at the Delaware County Jail.

Police say the incident is a reminder that impaired drivers aren't just a late night phenomenon. If you suspect someone is driving impaired, call 911 and be prepared to give a vehicle description, location and direction of travel. Police say not to follow an impaired driver.
