Muncie may demolish building's remnant arch

An arched remnant of a downtown Muncie building that's long been a landmark in the central Indiana city may be demolished amid growing concerns about its safety.

The arched entryway is all that's left of the Wysor Building, which was demolished more than two decades ago.

Mayor Dennis Tyler and others are concerned about the arch's structural integrity and hazards posed by the tile floor of the entryway, which is collapsing and revealing the basement below.

The Star Press reports  the Muncie Redevelopment Commission has decided to advertise and give interested parties 30 days to mount an effort to either save or move the arch to another location.

The board also said it would solicit quotes for the arch's demolition if those efforts fail.
