A new source for recreation may be coming to Central Indiana.

There is a proposal for a new reservoir in Madison County.

The Mounds Lake project not only means a lot for Madison County but all of Indiana.

It stretches from Anderson into Delaware County, and is seven miles long and 3/4 miles wide.

It's a $350-400 million project.

Right now it's just in the idea phase. But starting today, people in the areas affected have the chance to speak up about the proposed project.

The idea behind Mounds Lake is to offer a new fresh water resource for Central Indiana.

Some studies show Indiana, along with the rest of the country, will be experiencing fresh water shortages.

This is also about recreation and development — offering an area for boating, fishing, hiking along trails and property development.

There are meetings starting today and running all of this week. Anyone is invited to offer their input on the project.

It will be up to seven years before this becomes reality, if it is all approved and paid for.
