Motorcyclist killed in Jackson County crash

A Columbus man was killed Friday morning after his motorcycle struck a semi on I-65 northbound at the State Road 11 interchange.  

According to Indiana State Trooper Korry Clark, a 1994 Yamaha motorcycle driven by 49-year-old Kevin Burton of Columbus, IN was entering I-65 northbound from S.R. 11. As he came down the ramp a northbound 2005 International semi tractor pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with wood trusses driven by 60-year-old Terry Brishaber of Henryville, IN was in the right lane of I-65 as the motorcycle merged onto the interstate it struck the drive axles of the semi ejecting Burton.  He was pronounced dead at the scene and Brishaber was uninjured.

Both lanes of northbound I-65 were closed for about 90 minutes as troopers investigated the crash.

Motorists are reminded May is motorcycle safety awareness month and should be alert as more motorcycles are on the highways during the warmer months. Motorcyclists are reminded to watch for other motorists and should wear appropriate protective clothing as they ride to include helmets.
