Mother, son arrested for neglect at Mississinewa Reservoir
A Peru man and his mother were arrested on child abuse-related charges at an Indiana campground over the weekend.
Conservation officers at Mississinewa Reservoir received a complaint from campers who said they witnessed Craig Minarik, 31, and his mother, 53-year-old Linda Black, abusing a 21-month-old girl at the modern campground. The witnesses described excessive discipline directed toward Minarik's stepdaughter.
Both suspects were arrested for felony neglect of a dependent after an investigation. Minarik was also charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Black was also arrested on a pre-existing arrest warrant out of Cass County.
Three children were taken from the campsite by Child Protective Services. The children were evaluated before being released to family members.
The Miami County Sheriff's Department and Mississinewa Reservoir security staff assisted at the scene.
