A mother and her son escaped their Carrollton Avenue home when fire broke out early Wednesday morning.

They awoke to heavy smoke shortly before 5:00 a.m. and saw fire in the walls of one of the rooms.

IFD put the fire out within 20 minutes and estimates damage at $30,000.

A preliminary investigation indicates the source of the fire may be electrical.

The home had no working smoke detectors.

The residents of the home will stay with relatives for the time being.
