Missing girl found safe
Metro Police found a nine-year-old girl who went missing from Brookside Park Thursday morning.
Mitike Eiler was last seen in the area of Brookside Park and Lasalle at around 9:30 am. She was found safe and sound by IMPD officers at Georgia and Meridian streets downtown four hours later.
Midwest Search Dogs were brought in to assist, and police also used helicopters. People in Eiler's neighborhood also started their own search.
"Our little ones, we try to keep an eye on them," said Tracy Baldwin.
Baldwin had started a grassroots search with other parents in the heart of the girl's neighborhood.
"I got people out here walking and looking. We are doing the alleys. I got them checking trash piles, I got them checking tree trash, I got them checking around abandoned houses. Anything that looks like it's been disturbed, looking through it," Baldwin said.
Chopper 13 captured the moment as officers spoke to the girl, who appeared to be unharmed, downtown. That was a relief to Baldwin and her neighbors, who are standing up to crime in the Brookside Park area.
"They don't like it when we shake the tree, but we are fed up and we are tired of it and we are taking our neighborhood back," Baldwin said.
