Memorial service for Mandela set for Indianapolis
The Church Federation of Greater Indianapolis plans to hold a public memorial service for Nelson Mandela Sunday at the Indiana State House.
The group says central Indiana civic and religious leaders will gather for the service 5 p.m. Sunday to honor the former South African president and the anti-apartheid icon who died Thursday at the age of 95. The service will include music, song and reflections on how Mandela inspired people to rise above political and ethnic divisions to bring about change.
The federation was founded in 1912 by downtown Indianapolis congregations and now includes both urban and suburban churches.
