McDonald's robberies a concern for workers, customers
Robbers surprised some fast food workers during a late night hold-up. It's the second robbery of a central Indiana McDonald's in the last two weeks, and the fifth incident in the past month.
"I just think it's sad. It's scary," said Suzette Dubeansky, who visited the McDonalds on East Washington Street Monday. It's her children's favorite fast food spot, and her son usually opts for a Happy Meal.
But the popular restaurant chain has recently become the favorite for robbers, too. The golden arches have been hit five times in the past month.
Sunday night at around 11:00 pm, two masked gunmen ordered the manager of the E. Washington St. restaurant to open the safe. They took off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
"That terrifies me. I mean, if I was in there with my kids. I would hate to think about what could have happened," said Dubeansky.
Last Tuesday, customers got caught in the middle of a robbery at a west side Indianapolis McDonalds at West 56th Street and Georgetown Road. Two masked gunmen also ordered the manager to turn over money from the safe.
During that incident, one of the gunmen took money from at least one customer. A second customer tried to follow the suspects, but lost sight of them during the getaway. No one was hurt.
Police call the string of McDonalds robberies unusual. What's more concerning is that more customers are flocking to McDonald's Cafe to use the free wi-fi.
Suzette Dubeansky has already told her kids what to do in case of an emergency.
"I kind of go over what they should do, shouldn't do in cases like that. Like I said, we have seen an increase In crime in our neighborhood so our talk is, if you see something like that what you do is go to a safe place, pick up the phone and call 911," she said.
So far, no one has been injuried in any of the robberies, even those that took place with customers inside the restaurant.
If you have any information that could help police in this case, call Crime Stoppers. The telephone number is 262-TIPS.
