Mayor's $350M rebuilding plan hits setback

Mayor Greg Ballard's plan to rebuild the city's streets and sidewalks hit a major setback Thursday night.

Earlier this month, Ballard announced a plan to use $350 million of Rebuild Indy money to repave the city's worst streets, build sidewalks and fix flooding problems in some of Indianapolis' poorest neighborhoods.

But Thursday night, the Public Works Committee voted against sending the proposal to the full City-County Council, essentially killing the projects for the time being. The projects would have started next year.

"Tonight, Democrats on the City-County Council turned their backs on every neighborhood in Indianapolis," the mayor said in a statement.
