Mayor Ballard promotes pre-K expansion plan
Mayor Greg Ballard is promoting his preschool expansion plan.
He visited IPS school 55 with Superintendent Dr. Lewis Ferebee to talk about how the new plan breaks with 40 years of policy.
It would give 1,300 low-income children access to pre-K education.
"The data is pretty clear on all this," Ballard said. "These kids have a lot better chance at having a successful life if we do this. That's just very, very clear."
Ferebee joined the mayor in pointing out that a pre-K education is a long-term investment.
"This is a clear strategy in terms of helping prepare our students to be successful, but also to graduate and be prepared for a college and career," Ferebee said.
IPS has publicly supported the mayor's plan.
