Budget challenges are forcing the Marion County Sheriff's Department to end a program for offenders.

Liberty Hall is a private facility on East Washington Street that houses low-security offenders. It was a five-year pilot program that ends on December 31st.

The women in Liberty Hall will be moved to the Marion County Jail by the end of the week.

The sheriff says his prime focus in 2012 will be costs associated with arrestee healthcare and promises to evaluate the female inmate programs.

"Liberty Hall will be replacing the county female offenders with a contract it was recently awarded from the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) for female work release participants. The company enjoyed a good working relationship with Marion County but looks forward now to its focus on work release programs for male and female participants from IDOC," said Chris Greeder, company spokesman for Community Education Centers.
