Man with Indiana connections sought in murder investigation has been found

Dwight Bell was caught on camera twice at the Speedway gas station at 404 S. Kentucky Avenue.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – A man with Indiana connections sought for weeks by police in Kentucky has been arrested.

Police in Somerset, Kentucky said Tuesday that Dwight Mitchell Bell was found in Dandridge, Tennessee. Bell was arrested without incident and held on a warrant in connection with the theft of an automobile.

Bell has been called a “person of interest” in the death of the owner of the car, Ruthie Carolyn New.

The search came earlier to Indianapolis.

Bell has an open warrant for failure to appear in New Castle, Indiana.

Police said New’s car was found abandoned in the parking lot of Shapiro's Delicatessen on South Meridian Street on August 23. Later that night and then again on August 24, Bell stopped at the Speedway gas station at 401 S. Kentucky Avenue.

Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana released surveillance photos of Bell entering that store, noting that he entered from the north both times and left in the same direction after making a purchase.
