Metro Police are interviewing potential witnesses after a man showed up at IU Health-Methodist Hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg early Thursday morning.

The unidentified man, described by police as Hispanic and in his 20s, claimed he was hit by a random bullet in the parking lot of the Phillips 66 gas station on 16th Street, just west of Lafayette Road, around 3:15 a.m.

Police interviewed witnesses at the gas station and across the street at the Sunset Strip club, and are checking surveillance video from businesses in the area to determine where the bullet may have originated.

A shell casing was found in the gas station parking lot, but investigators have not matched it to the wounded man, who is expected to recover.
