A 51-year-old Haitian man was shot in his house on the northwest side early Tuesday morning in what police are calling an apparent robbery.

IMPD officers told Eyewitness News at the scene that the house in the 1200 block of West 35th Street was unlocked when two men in their late teens gained access and attempted to rob the man.

The robbers made off with more than $1,000 in cash, and they shot the man once in the upper right chest.  He went to Wishard Hospital in serious condition. He has since been upgraded to fair condition.

The suspects are still at large.  One is described as thin, the other as shorter and heavy-set.  One was wearing a blue hoodie.
