SHELBY COUNTY - A 28-year-old man from Shelbyville was killed in a car crash early Thursday morning.

The Shelby County Sheriff's Department says the man was driving a 2007 Pontiac G5 south on SR 9 in Shelby County when he left the roadway and overturned. The driver, Christopher Ayers, was ejected from the vehicle and was found lying unresponsive in a field. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 19-year-old male passenger, Jacob Vincent, was conscious and alert at the scene. He was taken by Lifeline to Methodist Hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash. He is listed in stable condition.

Police say Ayers was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Vincent did have a seatbelt fastened.

Blood was taken from the driver for testing, as part of police procedure.
