Man found shot to death on Indianapolis east side

Indianapolis Metro Police have identified the city's latest homicide victim.

Michael Taylor, 21, was found shot to death Monday morning on a sidewalk on the Indianapolis east side.

Officers were called to the 3300 block of Wallace Ave. before 9:00 am Monday. That's near E. 34th and Emerson Ave.

Homicide detectives were on the scene Monday morning and the Indianapolis-Marion Forensic Services Agency assisted with processing the crime scene.

Homicide detectives have not yet released specific suspect information, but urge anyone with information about this incident to call IMPD homicide detectives at 317.327.3475 or callers wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers of Indiana at 317.262.TIPS (8477). Callers may also text "INDYCS" plus tip information to 274627 (CRIMES).

It's the latest homicide after a weekend of violence in Indianapolis. Overnight Saturday, three people died violent deaths over a period of just five hours.

Just before 5:00 pm Saturday, 18-year-old Markeewan Ward was gunned down in the 3500 block of Graceland Avenue. Two hours later, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police were called to the 3600 block of Gladstone Avenue where they found 23-year-old Dominique Butler shot to death. Then, around 9:30, 47- year- old Terry Day was found dead inside a home in the 400 block of West 26th Street.

In just four hours, police were working three homicides. While those incidents are not believed to be related, they are concerning to police and to those who work in the community to prevent violence.

As of Sunday, the city's murder rate for 2013 was up to 126 - the most seen in Indianapolis since 2006.
