A man exposed himself in public Sunday then led police on a car chase that ended in a crash, according to police.

It started that afternoon in Lawrence when officers were called to the Walmart on Pendleton Pike where they said a man in his 20's had exposed himself in his car in the parking lot. When police tried to talk to him, he reportedly told them he didn't have time then took off.

The chase continued through Hancock, Marion and Madison counties before the suspect wrecked his car in a field.

"There could have been other issues with the subject that we needed to find out to see if he perhaps could have been taking pictures of other people, could have been watching other children in that area, so we don't know what his history was in which he could have been a violent felon, in which that's something that we needed to find out," said Deputy Chief Curtis Bigsbee with the Lawrence Police Department.

Medics checked out the suspect after the crash but he didn't have any serious injuries and was later taken to the jail. At last check, his identity had not been released.
