Man dies after being shot by police in Elkhart

Indiana State Police say an Elkhart police officer responding to a report of a burglary chased a man, who was fatally shot when he pointed a gun at police.

The names of the victim and the officer involved in the shooting were not immediately released. The shooting occurred Sunday afternoon.

State police say the Elkhart police were respondent a report of a burglary in progress. When officers arrived, they ran after two people they spotted leaving the house. State police say the Elkhart officers caught one suspect without incident, but the other pointed a gun.

No police officers were injured.
