Man charged with murder after body found in wooden chest

A 60-year-old Lawrence man has been charged in the murder of a woman whose body was discovered in a wooden chest next to a dumpster.

James Wade Jr. was arrested Wednesday for the murder of Jazmine Trammell. Trammell's body was discovered March 23 inside a wooden chest in the Maison Gardens Apartment complex.

According to court documents, apartment complex employees discovered Trammell's body. An autopsy determined that she died from multiple stab wounds.

Police traced Wade to a number on Trammell's phone. They say his number was one of the last she communicated with on the morning she went missing.

Police say Wade lived at Maison Gardens and lived close to where the chest was found. A blood sample found inside Wade's apartment was determined to match the DNA profile of the victim.

Wade appeared for an initial hearing Thursday morning in Court 5 and entered a preliminary plea of not guilty. A pre-trial conference is set for May 27, 2014, at 9:00 a.m.
